About the Role

This role will be responsible for the strategic alignment of the Property & Workplace portfolio, projects, programs, and workplace design with business needs. They will identify, initiate, and govern major transactions, projects and other value-adding activity across the portfolio.

Reporting to the Head of Property & Workplace, this role will develop strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure our portfolio, projects and programs are managed efficiently, sustainably and meeting customer needs and expectations. They will collaborate across the Property & Workplace team to ensure strategy and activity is informed by ‘on the ground’ insights and supports ongoing operational excellence. 

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced property and projects professional looking to lead a high performing team working on a global portfolio and major world-class projects.  The role can be based in any of our BHP offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, or Perth.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Engagement at senior leader level and across Property & Workplace team to deeply understand future business needs and key drivers of workplace effectiveness.  
  • Development and execution of a 5 to 10 year portfolio strategy which enables business strategy; unlocks commercial value; and provides safe, secure and effective workplaces.  
  • Accountability for major program & project delivery and governance, portfolio strategy and execution, with annual leasing opex circa US$80M and annual major project capex circa US$12M. Accountability for Workplace strategy & standards, ensuring currency to business needs & operational requirements and governance of their application.   
  • Strategy & Planning: contributes to Global P&W strategy and business planning, strategy and governance of major projects and programs across property portfolio, ensuring realisation of balanced scorecard return on investment. 
  • Leadership and development of Portfolio & Projects team, including service provider SMEs, creating a centre of delivery excellence. 
  • Improvement: conducts end-to-end analysis of performance and bench-marking (internal & external) to diagnose problems and identify improvement and innovation opportunities. Conducts research and provides thought leadership on best practice and develops recommendations for continuous improvements. 
  • Intelligence: maintains strong internal and external network globally, leveraging to inform portfolio and workplace strategy; understanding internal and external emerging requirements, defining and scoping capability requirements to address; and developing plans to test, iterate and implement improvement initiatives, ensuring seamless transition into BAU.  

About You

  • Experience in leading leaders who are multidisciplinary and work with complex projects and negotiations
  • A strategic thinker who connects external and internal context to shape strategy across short and longer term, communicating with clarity to drive confident decision making
  • A reputation of care for your team members and a commitment to their growth and development
  • Extensive experience in leading a property related function across multiple geographies
  • Experience in leading the delivery of large-scale property construction projects in different markets
  • Experience in large scale lease / agreement for lease transactions
  • Contract negotiation and execution, contract governance and risk management and reporting
  • Successful senior stakeholder management across multiple functions and geographies
  • Demonstrated track record in commercial value creation
  • Experience in exploring and operationalizing new services
  • Experience in data analytics to inform strategy and decision making
  • Tertiary qualification in Commercial Property advantageous
