Manager - Systems (Long Term Planning & Systems)

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

We are seeking a highly motivated mining professional to join our Strategic Mine Planning team. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Long Term Planning and Systems, this role is primarily responsible to drive and enable the execution of the roadmap to support the group strategy to build an efficient data management system and associated toolkit needed to support this vision. The role will also be accountable for guiding the development and integration of new, world-class, customised mine planning software to the business.

The role aims to improve the efficiency and productivity of the wider mine planning and technical groups by streamlining the storage and flow of data from the raw drilling data through to useable mining models used across the planning horizons, help de-bottleneck common data-handling workflows, and streamline connectivity between software packages and improve confidence in the data accuracy.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Developing and implementing roadmaps for systems development for data management and planning systems teams
  • Driving data systems improvement and development
  • Developing and provide systems which allow for standardisation of workflows and processes to support the life cycle of orebody knowledge from collection to operational use
  • Supporting mine planning with advancing the use of optimisations tools and techniques over varying planning horizons
  • Supporting agile prototyping and development techniques to enable rapid incremental enhancements to strategic planning systems
  • Driving simplification and automation of systems to improve efficiency

Qualification and Experience: 

  • Experience with mine planning systems, software and geoscientific data management
  • Experience with optimisation techniques within the mining domain
  • Experience translating user requests into system requirements in the mine planning domain
  • Understanding the of orebody knowledge lifecycle from collection through to resource estimation & development of ore reserves
  • Strong understanding of and proficiency with VULCAN, acQuire, and mine scheduling software
  • Strong analytical and communication skills – verbal and written; Report writing skills
