Manager - Technical Marketing

Location - Shanghai

Role overview:

We are seeking a Marketing Manager, based in Shanghai, who will report to the Group Manager Technical Marketing, based in Perth. The Senior Technical Marketing Manager will lead a small, highly regarded team of technical professionals in the Shanghai office.

The Shanghai team supports Fortescue’s iron ore sales, industry analysis and Fortescue Shanghai Trading teams, by leveraging a deep understanding of iron ore products, their vale in use in iron and steel making processes, contributing to the maximum realisation of value for Fortescue shareholders.

The team also has accountability for managing the R&D test work programs in China and leading collaboration initiatives with customers and other industry stakeholders. The Senior Technical Marketing Manager will also support the Group Manager Corporate Development China, in developing and managing key customer collaborations and engagements with regards to decarbonisation activities.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Manage and lead Shanghai technical marketing team, organise and assign tasks and resources
  • Foster customer relationships by regular visits to steel mills for technical exchanges
  • Provide technical input into customer segmentation and price discovery activities, including value in use analysis of opportunities and current market situation
  • Develop and execute technical marketing collaborations with customers and external organisations
  • Plan and deliver R&D programs with Chinese research institutes and customers
  • Promote Fortescue products through seminars, conferences and workshops, plan and deliver biennial Technical Forum

Qualification and Experience:

  • To be successful in this role, you should have a minimum of 15 years professional technical experience and a track record gained in technical marketing functions in China for a minimum of five (5) years
  • Experience in iron ore beneficiation and agglomeration will be highly regarded
  • Experience and qualifications in Metallurgy and/or Engineering is essential
  • Proficiency in verbal and written English and Mandarin is required
