About the role

Join Rio Tinto as Manager, Tenure & GIS, leading a dynamic team to manage and secure land tenure assets, and deliver spatial technologies, services and products critical to the growth of our Iron Ore business.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to play a key role in enabling long-term, sustainable land access and delivering geospatial strategy and governance across Rio Tinto’s iron ore portfolio to support business success.

Reporting to the General Manager – State Agreements & Approvals within Rio Tinto Iron Ore you will be responsible for:

  • Leading a large specialised technical team while fostering a culture of high performance

  • Develop and lead the tenure management strategy, and provide strategic tenure advice across multiple business units to ensure timely and sustainable land access

  • Lead tenure security and strict compliance with legislative requirements, including determining appropriate strategy for resolution of objections to tenure applications in the Warden’s Court

  • Lead engagement with relevant State Government agencies, industry bodies and negotiations with third parties, including participation in legislative and policy reform.

  • Oversee the management of Rio Tinto’s GIS Enterprise System, spatial data, cartographic outputs, and business system integration.

  • Drive the GIS team strategy to align with industry technology and best practices, ensuring Rio Tinto systems utilize the latest GIS technology to maintain a competitive edge.

  • Lead the GIS team to ensure rigorous QA/QC in map creation, spatial data accuracy and standardization, drive GIS-based improvement initiatives, and provide GIS training and support across the business.

This role will be offered on a full-time basis, situated in Perth, nestled in the cities CBD, within our Central Park offices.
