About Mt Arthur Coal

New South Wales Energy Coal consists of the Mt Arthur Coal open-cut energy coal mine in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia. The site produces coal for international customers in the energy sector. The mobile mining fleet consists of 70 dump trucks which are loaded by electric rope shovels and

hydraulic excavators, and supported by a variety of ancillary equipment.

Following BHP’s closure announcement of Mt Arthur, the asset continues to work through our ‘path to 2030’ with tight integration between our BAU operations and the Transition Project. Our priority will continue to be safe and sustainable operations, our people, and positively impacting the communities that we operate in, here in the Hunter Valley.

About the Role

This exciting new leadership role provides strategic direction and delivery to teams focussed on the monitoring and governance of a portfolio of projects in order to seek opportunities for value creation and preservation by setting program-wide strategies for standardisation, replication and continuity. This strategic viewpoint will ultimately translate into operational and tactical outcomes to support the transition.

This role be offered on a 5/2 residential basis in either Newcastle or Muswellbrook (and surrounding region) with regular travel to site

In this role you will:

  • Development and governance of the integrated transition and mine closure plan (includes overarching plan out to 2030 as well as the tactical 2 year budget execution plan)
  • Follow risk management processes, conducts risk assessments, complies with standards and accurately reports on risk to maximise safety and value across projects at BHP. 
  • Ensures alignment between the operating budget and execution plans across the multiple work streams.
  • Coordinates the management of the transition and mine closure plan risk and opportunities through adherence to BHP risk management processes, risk assessments and reporting upon risk to maximise safety and value for the project.
  • Effectively implements prioritisation methodologies and identifies key investment drivers to effectively achieve the project required objectives. 
  • Makes evidence based and strategic decisions in alignment with longer term business objectives.
  • Identifies, engages and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Conducts presentations and facilitates workshops using storytelling to connect, influence and engage the audience. 
  • Designs and implements governance/assurance practices and Management of Change procedures to control value outcomes across BHP. 
  • Applies and evaluates change management tools, methods, data, purpose, value and strategic direction. 
  • Applies an understanding of the business context, BHP operating model and ways of working to enhance decision making, productivity and value chain performance. 
  • Engages the capabilities of the entire organisation. 
  • Strives to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste. 
  • Knows our customer and is obsessed with meeting their needs. 

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Mining), or and aligned discipline
  • Experience managing medium (US$20M to US$250M) to large (>US$250M) projects
  • Leadership experience within Operational and Technical settings across Minerals or Energy
  • Mine planning experience will be highly desirable
  • Experienced in a PMO environment
  • Effective and highly influential multi-stakeholder engagement
  • Exceptional communication and the ability to engage across a multitude of levels
