Manufacturing Engineer – Process and Automation

Work Location: Gladstone, QLD

Roster: Monday to Friday

As a Manufacturing Engineer you will play a critical role in the development and refinement of our production processes and procedures. You will be tasked to identify opportunities for ongoing improvement and to achieve the highest possible levels of product quality and manufacturing efficiency.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Develop the manufacturing process (manual and automated) by liaising with stakeholders, researching the product and process requirements and provide training and documentation to sustain process
  • Perform PLC programming / troubleshooting. Implement measures to sustain high OEE on assigned automation line, including robotics, material handling and conveyancing
  • Implement new equipment installs, upgrades and decommissioning, perform pre-start checks and configurations during all stages of change management. All new process, equipment and procedures to meet product quality requirements, safety, process capability and improved efficiency
  • Utilise Lean Six Sigma (L6S) methodology to implement a lean manufacturing process and sustainable process efficiency
  • Execute performance improvement activities like time-motion studies, ergonomic studies, process simulations to continually improve operational efficiencies
  • Responds to emergencies/breakdowns. Reports for records all recurring problems with machinery, equipment and parts that can be identified and addressed
  • Work closely with maintenance teams, OEMs and other subject matter experts to ensure process and manufacturing equipment are maintained and performing to required operational plans
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labour, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements
  • Interface with subcontractors, vendors, maintenance and procurement team to develop and implement improvements, cost savings and safe processes
  • Sets calibration, adjusts equipment, machinery and instruments so that they comply with production specifications and instructions
  • Plan and execute preventative maintenance on automation lines and also perform validations and start up after changes (Management of Change)

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Undergraduate Degree Engineering, Control Systems or related field
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in industrial automation controls and software, or mechanical or electrical systems
  • Must have experience in PLC programming, controls wiring and programming experience (AB, Siemens, ABB, Fanuc)
  • Preferably have experience with operating articulated robots, Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and other industrial systems but not limited to pneumatics, hydraulics or hybrid systems
  • Strong CAD and 3D modelling skills (Autodesk Inventor preferred)
  • Understanding of fundamental manufacturing safety systems (functional safety, robot safety, light curtains, safety guarding, etc)
