Manufacturing Quality Engineer

Work Location: Perth

The Manufacturing Quality Engineer will establish and maintain a Quality Culture within Fortescue Future Industries (FFI), by ensuring our quality management and production processes comply with company’s quality objectives and to implement continuous improvement. To achieve this, you will be hands on assuring and controlling Quality with systems, tools and teams to exceed customer expectations while ensuring sustainable operations.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Deploy and support a Quality Culture within local FFI, by assuring Quality with systems, tools and teams to exceed customer expectations while ensuring sustainable operations
  • Develop, implement and maintain the Quality Management System and all aspects managed in line with FFI guidance
  • Develop and maintain the supplier quality assurance program through a range of tools including assessments and audits
  • Perform sampling, quality control testing and activities on incoming components and final products
  • Assist in the implementation of effective internal controls to verify that processes will meet customer and stakeholder requirements
  • Develop and implement control plans, and validate they are applied and effective in mitigating known risks
  • Performing quality audits of internal processes
  • Represent the Voice of the Customer within local teams. Challenge the teams with customer experience feedback and input to decisions. Enable and coach employees to evaluate risks, problems and solutions from a customer/stakeholder point of view
  • Utilize FFI systems and tools to assist the Engineering function with Product data and analysis to validate that Products continue to meet operational and customer expectations throughout their lifecycle. Utilize advanced product quality planning to assure effective introduction of new products
  • Collaborate with engineering to develop inspection plans and test protocols for existing and/or new products
  • Lead the local teams in the application of an operational approach and system of process management that is continually evaluated for effectiveness
  • Participate in root cause investigations when deviations or non-conformances occur
  • Perform audits and use Quality data analytics from all parts of the operation to identify risks, failures and non-conformances within the local operations, its suppliers and customers

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in quality, science, industrial or mechanical engineering
  • Demonstrated experience delivering quality-focussed outcomes in a mass production manufacturing environment
  • 2+ years of experience in quality engineering, quality assurance, or a similar role
  • Experience using QA/QC software tools
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and project management skills with a high attention to detail
  • Desirable:
    • Certificate or Diploma in Auditing for ISO9001 system or equivalent
    • Proven experience in an auditing role under ISO9001 or equivalent
    • Demonstrated experience to work independently within stringent EH&S measures
