Materials Engineer - Hydrogen Production Systems (HPS)
Work location: Dawson Road, Perth Airport
Roster: Monday to Friday
Key responsibilities:
- Understanding and specifying material requirements to meet design, manufacturing, and commercial needs
- Ownership of the inventory management for the prototyping technologies
- Development of innovative materials solutions, internally and with suppliers, to improve electrolyser performance, reliability, sustainability, and cost
- Qualification and approval of materials systems for electrolyser projects
- Material characterization and analysis of test and validation data, including running trials in production environment
- You will acquire and analyse data, prepare a report (diagrams, charts, drawings, calculations, etc.), define reliability problems, and make recommendations for improvements
- Work cross functionally with engineers to design innovative characterisation and reliability techniques
- Being the materials lead in supporting the supply chain team in stakeholder meetings
- Develop scope documents with the design team when external engineering or fabrication works are required
- Taking responsibility and ownership within his/her area for current and future technologies/strategy
- Support the assembly and testing of your designs in a shop prototype testing setting
Qualifications and skills required:
- Engineering degree (BSc,Msc,Phd) (Materials , Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical)
- Commercial experience, especially working with stakeholders from wide backgrounds and external suppliers is essential
- Experience in identifying material requirements, material specifications, test methods and characterization techniques
- Mechanical testing: tension/compression, 3-point bend, 4-point bend, lap shear, hardness/impact tests, creep etc.
- Material reliability testing: drop test, fatigue test, leachability indexing and other relevant tests to understand and compare material properties
- Knowledge of composite and thermoplastics materials and their manufacturing technologies including injection and compression moulding
- Experience in delivering into projects and task planning
- Lab experience is desirable
- Experience with Matlab and Python programming
- Self-motivated self-starter who has the ability to work in a fast-paced environment when provided with high level targets and design parameters
- An innovative but methodical thinker who is outcome driven and adaptable to changing scopes
- RPEQ, CPEng or Chartered Status will be highly regarded, however not essential
