Our Opportunity

Work Location: Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.

Roster: 8D/6R – FIFO ex Perth 

This role is responsible for providing mechanical engineering support to the Iron Bridge ore processing facility (OPF), with a strong focus on safe and effective weekly maintenance, breakdown response, shutdowns, and plant improvement activities. The Mechanical Engineer works closely with Maintenance, Operations, Planning and other stakeholders to resolve equipment issues, support maintenance execution and deliver engineering solutions that improve plant availability, reliability, and performance. The role supports a broad range of fixed plant equipment and contributes to achieving site stretch targets through practical engineering, defect elimination, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering support for the safe, reliable day-to-day operation and maintenance of the Iron Bridge OPF, including breakdown response and equipment troubleshooting.
• Support maintenance and shutdown activities through technical advice, engineering assessments, scope development, specifications, repair strategies, and execution support.
• Provide technical expertise across fixed plant equipment, including crushers, HPGRs, screens, feeders, conveyors, pumps, tanks, magnetic drums, and associated mechanical systems.
• Investigate equipment failures, recurring defects, and performance issues, conducting root cause analysis and implementing practical defect elimination and continuous improvement solutions.
• Develop and support engineering solutions, equipment upgrades, plant modifications, and capital projects, ensuring compliance with site requirements, engineering standards, and QA/QC expectations.
• Collaborate with Maintenance, Operations, and key stakeholders to improve safety, equipment availability, maintainability, production performance, and maintenance effectiveness while delivering engineering actions through to completion.

Qualifications and Experience

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, with 5+ years’ experience in fixed plant, mining, mineral processing, or heavy industry.
• Strong practical knowledge of fixed plant mechanical equipment and maintenance, with experience across crushers, HPGRs, screens, conveyors, pumps, tanks, and similar equipment highly regarded.
• Demonstrated experience supporting planned maintenance, breakdown response, and major shutdown activities in an operating plant environment.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding, problem-solving, and failure investigation skills, with the ability to develop practical and effective engineering solutions.
• Strong planning, organisation, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across Operations, Maintenance, Planning, Projects, and contractors.
• Working knowledge of SAP, asset management/maintenance systems, and Microsoft Office, with engineering software experience such as Navisworks highly regarded, alongside a strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
