Fortescue is now consistently producing 175-180 million tonnes of iron ore per year and has an exciting future ahead as it diversifies from a pure play iron ore producer to a green renewables and resources company.
The company is scheduled to commence production at its Iron Bridge magnetite mine in mid-2023.
Iron Bridge is Fortescue’s US$2.6 billion project, set to deliver 22mtpa of high grade 67% Fe magnetite concentrate product. Located 145km by road south of Port Hedland, the mine will deliver an innovative process design and industry-leading energy efficient operation.
Iron Bridge represents Fortesuce's latest operation culminating in a new OPF/CHF, new technologies and camp facilities.
Mechanical Engineer
Work Location: Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.

Key accountabilities will include:
- Be a technical leader in support of the maintenance, operational and shutdown teams.
- Provide technical support into process improvements, future upgrades, breakdowns, Maintenance outages and strategies.
- Develop and maintain technical excellence in the installation, operation, and maintenance of ore processing equipment i.e crushers, conveyors, vibrating equipment, high pressure grinding rolls, vertical mills, slurry pumping equipment, etc.
- Identifying, managing, and delivering minor engineering projects to improve plant safety, reliability, and productivity.
- Support equipment failure investigations using root cause analysis techniques and implement remedial actions to prevent reoccurrence, and champion engineering risk assessment and change management processes.
- Engage with key site and team stakeholders when facilitating all improvement works, clear communication & collaboration.
- Monitoring Asset Management KPI's, identify gaps in performance and recommend actions to resolve.
Qualifications and skills required:
- Mechanical Engineering Degree, or similar, with site-based mining industry experience with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Heavy industry experience preferably in Fixed Plant Ore Processing.
- Experience working on similar equipment, exposure to Greenfields projects, or experience within brownfields optimisation and improvement projects with an understanding of mechanical engineering design and application to Ore Processing Facilities.
- Experience with Reliability concepts and activities such as root cause analysis, defect elimination, maintenance strategy improvement
- Management of design and fabrication contractors
- Experience with SAP is advantageous
- Prior experience working within operational teams on site is essential
