Job Description

An exciting opportunity has become available for a dedicated Mechanical Engineering Superintendent to oversee the Reliability and Improvement team. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager you will be responsible for leading your team of Engineers to deliver the highest level of technical support for maintenance on site. Providing leadership, direction and strategy to the site Operational and Capital expenditure programs you will support installations, modifications and upgrades while aligning to site protocols.

As a leader within our team, you will be responsible for the monitoring and upkeep of the sites’ engineering standards. You will have a passion for compliance and be required to review engineering and maintenance systems and processes onsite and ensure that Hail Creek Open Cut remains a leader within the coal business.

About the Candidate

The successful candidate will bring the following skills and experience to the role:

  • You will have clear accountability to drive safety first and foremost, leading the way with hazard identification, risk management and safety inspections.
  • You will mentor, guide and coach your team to deliver against performance targets and provide motivation to create an excellent working environment.
  • Maintain a high level of positive safety performance and workplace culture through teamwork, personal commitment, and application of the company values.
  • Provide technical guidance for maintenance activities to provide a high standard.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of preventative maintenance strategies and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) – SAP preferred.
  • Ability to liaise with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
  • Previous experience performing the same or similar role in the industry.
  • Sound knowledge of risk identification processes, safe work practices and relevant Australian standards.
  • High levels of resourcefulness, versatility, initiative, personal organisation, and diplomacy.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.

The ideal candidate will hold tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering and be willing to obtain and hold Mechanical Engineering Manager (MEM) accountabilities in the future. They will also possess demonstrated experience in a similar role, along with proven front-line leadership capabilities and extensive experience within the mining or heavy industry sectors.

We are only a one and quarter hour drive from the beautiful Mackay hinterland and a two- and half-hour drive from Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Islands and have a diverse group of people at our operation commuting from multiple locations in Queensland such as Rockhampton and Townsville, to name a few. Commercial Flight Support is available per written request for senior staff members and above, for flights from Mackay (MKY) to Brisbane (BNE) return.
