We have an opportunity that exists for a skilled and experienced Mechanical Fitter to join the Hoisting and Shafts Maintenance team at George Fisher Mine. The position is residential in Mount Isa and will require the applicant to responsibly, safely and effectively perform planned and breakdown maintenance tasks while promoting site safety values and ensuring the highest standards of work are conducted and executed in a professional manner.

The Role
We are looking for qualified Mechanical Fitter with a strong involvement in all aspects of maintenance, including routine maintenance, repairs, and servicing to join us in the Hoisting and Shafts department at George Fisher Mine. Reporting to the Hoisting and Shaft Assets Supervisor, you will have the ability to make decisions, work to meet deadlines and exceptional communication skills. The roster for this role is 4 on 4 off, 4 on 2 off days only. The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Safe and efficient repairs to Double Drum Winders, Ground Mounted Friction Winder, conveyor belts, hydraulic systems, Shaft steelwork, Winder rope maintenance and rope changes.
- Perform routine maintenance and servicing of Fixed Plant across the operation,
- Fault finding and trouble-shooting machinery issues
- Managing repairs, servicing and maintenance of machinery and equipment
- Reviewing, creating and modifying preventative maintenance plans for optimum reliability
- Supporting improvement projects that aim to reduce unplanned stoppages
- Maintaining and improving OH&S and overall operational standards in the workplace
The successful candidate will possess:
- Mechanical Fitter Trade qualification or similar
- A high Focus on Safety
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical/schematic drawings
- Ability to learn and understand machinery assembly / disassembly
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Flexible approach and adaptable to change with a high attention to detail
- Good time management skills and able to work well under pressure
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
- Good communication skills
- Willingness and ability to learn new processes
- Hold a current Australian Manual Drivers Licence
- Experience in SAP and Microsoft Office would be an advantage or similar system
- Hold a forklift, doggers or riggers competency
