About the opportunity
Maintenance Traineeships are a 12 month training program based at the academy in Forrestfield. Trainees study to become skilled Maintenance Associates with BHP, completing a Certificate II in Engineering – Production Technology.
Our Traineeships will provide you with exciting opportunities including:

Learning about the Fixed Plant equipment that we use on our mine sites. Some equipment you will learn about are; Conveyors, Crushers, Screens, Apron Feeders, Chutes and more.

Performing a variety of tasks such as; inspections, servicing, diagnostics and repairs on large mining equipment and components.

Participating in a mixture of classroom and theory learning, as well as practical workshop training. You will learn to interpret mechanical drawings, the basics of hydraulics and about the variety of tools we use to maintain these machines.

Paid training which is undertaken at our training academy in Perth. While training you will be working a roster of 7 Days / 7 Off / 7 Nights / 7 Off, day shift hours are 6am to 4:30pm and night shift hours are 1:30pm to 12:00am.
The Perth academy is currently offering Fixed Plant Traineeship roles to commence in February and March 2025.

Accommodation and transportation is not provided and candidates would need to relocate to the Perth area if they do not already live locally. BHP has sites across Australia and it is important to understand that you may be required to relocate (including interstate) once you complete your training. This is based on demand for your trade or skillset across our mine sites.
About you
We’re looking for people from a broad range of backgrounds. Previous maintenance training is not necessary however you will have a genuine interest in fixing, repairing or tinkering.

A high commitment to safety

A strong desire to learn and develop a range of new skills

Motivation to achieve goals & enjoy a mixture of class room and workshop learning

Ability to live a safe travelling distance to the training centre - this is not a FIFO/DIDO role (whilst studying at the academy).

Ability to attend a roster that rotates across early mornings, evenings and weekends
-
To have the necessary personal support networks available to assist you in working the above roster

Experience working on machinery/vehicles through a hobby or work is highly regarded, but not essential
