Mechanical LV Fitter

Work Location: Hedland Operations - Fortescue’s Hedland Operations are located on the traditional lands of the Kariyarra people.

Roster: 8D/6R – FIFO ex Perth or Residential

Reporting to the NPI Operations Supervisor, Fortescue is seeking an experienced and motivated Vehicle Mechanic to join the Infrastructure Services team at Port and Rail.  This permanent full-time position will be required to perform duties throughout the site as necessary.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Minimise machinery downtime, conduct preventative maintenance and maximise efficiency of industry plants and machinery to ensure ongoing productivity.
  • Read and interpret drawings and specifications to determine job requirements.
  • Inspect and repair plant equipment as required.
  • Ensure material, Labour, plant and equipment is used as effectively and efficiently as possible.
  • Overhaul, service and repair the mechanical parts including engines, gearboxes, clutches and brakes of cars, utilities, trucks and mobile plant.
  • Stay on top of minor and major maintenance including oil changes, inspections, general servicing, and break downs.
  • Participate in shift/swing hand over prior to finishing work to ensure other employees are aware of all relevant information.
  • Ensure that all tools and equipment are clean and well maintained. 
  • Undertake all other reasonable tasks and duties that are peripheral to your role and within your skill and ability, as directed. 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Trade qualified – Mechanical Engineering trade.
  • Auto electrical experience desirable.
  • Previous experience in a similar role working on LV, HV and Mobile plant on a mine site.
  • Air-conditioning, Tire fitting and wheel aligning experience desirable.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team when needed.
  • HR driver’s license desirable.
  • Holding additional high-risk tickets and licenses will be beneficial.
