We are looking for an enthusiastic and high performing Mechanical Fitter to join our Utilities department at our Paraburdoo Operations.

This role is for applicants residing in Western Australia. Rio Tinto offers Fly in and Fly out from Perth, or if you are looking for a lifestyle change, this role has the opportunity to live residentially in the town on Paraburdoo.

Reporting to the Utilities Mechanical Supervisor and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Pilbara Mining Operations, you will be required to:

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team members
  • Responsible for all Mechanical fitting work
  • Maintain borefields pumps and pipelines
  • Water treatment plants, water and waste water transfer stations
  • Assist the infrastructure team as required with adhoc jobs
  • Carry out preventative maintenance
  • Operate mobile equipment as required

What you’ll bring:

  • C Class Drivers Licence
  • 5 + years as a Mechanical Fitter
  • Pump repair experience is important
  • Strip and repair a broad range of pumps
  • Submersible pumps, Multistage, Slurry, Piston pumps, Split case, Vacuum pumps, Positive displacement pumps, Centrifugal pumps,
  • Identifying defective or worn mechanical components or equipment
  • Rebuilding bearing assemblies
  • Shaft alignment, identifying run out and soft foot issues
  • Ability to interpret drawings and diagrams
  • Effective communication, time management and organisational skills
  • Desire to learn new skills outside of your level of expertise

It will also be desirable if you have:

  • Experience and competent in light fabrication work
  • Machining as required for remanufacturing of parts for pumps 
  • Operating Manual Lathe/Milling Machine and other workshop machinery
  • Assembling of machined components
  • Basic rigging and lifting.
  • Forklift licence
