About the role

Are you a Mechanical Tradesperson ready to take on the challenge of working on a unique processing plant? The team who run our Brine Concentrator (BC) onsite at Ranger Rehabilitation Project in Jabiru, want to hear from you. The is great opportunity for someone looking to expand their technical skill set or utilise their experience in a new way.

Living in Darwin, you’ll be able to take full advantage of the Outdoors Lifestyle on offer, as you’ll commute to Jabiru on a Bus In; Bus Out arrangement on a rotating Day/Night 7 on; 7 off roster (12.65 hr days).

You’ll enjoy a hybrid of Maintenance and Operator work, which mean sinking your teeth into a variety of work across the plant. The BC team pride themselves as being collaborative and close-knit.

The team run a lot of preventative maintenance and you’ll be monitoring failure modes and troubleshooting over time, as this role is crucial in the efficient day-to-day operation and maintenance activities of the BC.

Reporting to the Brine Concentrator Operations & Maintenance Supervisor, you will:

  • Carry-out maintenance work including scheduled work, break-in work, and maintenance shutdowns

  • Monitor fixed plant infrastructure, equipment status and trends so that plant stability is optimised

  • Assist with the completion of relevant incident investigations

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety including keeping work areas safe, clean, and well maintained and quickly correcting any unsafe conditions in the work area

  • Proactively communicate safety and process deficiencies to leaders

  • Provide feedback to leaders regarding equipment performance

  • Maintain a continuous improvement focus by developing and participating in implementation of appropriate solutions to eliminate issues/problems identified in the work area

What you will bring

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Commitment to the safety of yourself and your colleagues

  • Certificate III Mechanical Trade

  • A current manual 'C' class driver's licence

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and team skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of computers and Microsoft software packages

  • Strong critical thinking capabilities

  • The courage to initiate continuous improvement

Where you will be working

Energy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) operated the Ranger Uranium Mine near the town of Jabiru in the Northern Territory, Australia, previously mining and producing uranium oxide. In January 2021, ERA ceased all mining and processing activities at Ranger after 40 years of operation with the focus now shifting to rehabilitation.

The Ranger Rehabilitation Project is committed to the rehabilitation of the Ranger Project Area to a standard that will establish an environment similar to the adjacent Kakadu National Park. In 2024, ERA entered into a Management Services Agreement (MSA) with Rio Tinto to manage the Ranger Rehabilitation Project, which will build on ERA’s existing rehabilitation work with Rio Tinto’s technical expertise in designing, scoping and executing closure projects. We remain committed to working with all key stakeholders, including the Mirarr People to complete this important rehabilitation work.
