About the role
We currently have various opportunities for Mechanical Maintenance Technicians on site to join our high performing Maintenance teams across our Yarwun Refinery Operations. Whether you’re new to your trade or an experienced professional, and whatever industry you have exposure to, we have opportunities that will provide interesting work and growth opportunities for everyone.
Your experience, career goals and lifestyle preferences will determine whether you join our Material Handling, RMA, Utilities, Digestion, Clarification, Whiteside, or Shift Maintenance Teams.
We are currently actively seeking passionate, safety focused Mechanical Technicians in the below teams and will have upcoming vacancies for other teams, so we encourage you to apply now–
Shift Maintenance, Keppel & Quoin Crew – (5/5/4 continuous day/night lifestyle roster)
Breakdowns across all areas of the refinery
Digestion Maintenance, Wilson Crew – (5/5/4 day shift lifestyle roster)
Maintaining conveyors, caustic pumps and gear boxes, ball mills
Utilities Maintenance – (9-day fortnight)
Maintaining high pressure steam plant and gas turbine equipment – feedwater pumps, coal mill, high pressure control valves and piping systems.

Your experience, career goals and roster preference will determine the team you join and the equipment you work on, and you will report to the Team Leader for your team and your role may involve;
Maintaining mechanical assets across the refinery, focused on unplanned breakdown or plant limiting work, troubleshooting and problem-solving equipment failures and improving reliability
Identifying defects and providing feedback on asset performance and health
Confined space and working at heights activities
Working autonomously, being reliable and positively contributing to the maintenance team, understanding the requirement to maintain assets in a safe and reliable condition
Identifying and implementing improvement initiatives which will involve working with many different disciplines within the organisation
Identifying defects and providing feedback on asset performance and health
Promoting and identifying HSE opportunities to improve equipment, processes, and behaviours
Being flexible and adaptable to changing business needs
What you’ll bring
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
Respect for others and an all-inclusive mindset
Current valid C Class drivers licence
A Mechanical or Fitter & Turner trade qualification
Proven history of fault finding, troubleshooting and repairs on various fixed plant equipment
Proven maintenance experience working in heavy/industrial industry

Where you’ll be working
Located in Central Queensland, approximately 10km north-west of Gladstone, Yarwun alumina refinery commenced operations in 2004. Processing bauxite from our mines in Weipa and Gove, Yarwun produces more than three million tonnes of smelter grade alumina annually.
As one of the largest industries in the Gladstone region, Yarwun employs over 700 people and has a large contractor workforce.
With a focus on safely improving our process every day, the team at Yarwun challenge themselves to use existing and emerging technology to support our 24 hour operation.
