Mechanical Supervisor - Energy Operations

Work Location: Fortescue Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples.

Roster: 8D/6R – FIFO ex Perth

At Fortescue we are in the process of transforming our energy assets to achieve our climate change targets of zero emissions by 2030. The Energy Operations assets are expanding as such so is the team, this is an exciting time to join. You will be a key member of the leadership team at the Solomon Power Station and have exposure to a diverse range of engineering matters ensuring the sustainability of our operations.

About the role

Solomon Power Station is in the process of commissioning 15 medium speed gas reciprocating gensets from Bergen Engines, in conjunction with the current operational power station consisting of 2x LM6000PF and 4x Solar Titan 130 Gas Turbine Engines and their associated balance of plant.

You will lead a technically disciplined team and demonstrate an ability to deliver against a wide variety of mechanical activities.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to the mechanical maintenance team.
  • Work with the Power Station Superintendent and Planners to ensure all maintenance activities are resourced appropriately and executed in accordance with the maintenance strategy.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in a safe manner, weekly plans are followed and that daily tasks do not affect the supply of power to the mine.
  • Ensure statutory compliance in relation to classified plant, gas fitting works, and the environment.
  • Manage onsite contractors and to ensure compliance with FMG and Industry standards.
  • Compliance to SAP maintenance strategies, plan work and avoid reactive maintenance.  

 Qualifications and skills required:

  • A proactive approach and a strong commitment to maintaining our safe working culture.
  • Experience and confidence in delivering against your mechanical trade.
  • Mechanical trade qualification.
  • A current "C Class" WA Manual Driver’s License.
  • Experience working in the power generation industry.
  • Experience in operations and maintenance of Gas/ Diesel Reciprocating Engines & Balance of Plant
  • Experience in operations and maintenance of LM6000 Gas Turbines & Balance of Plant and Solar Gas Turbines
  • Experience and an understanding of the Work Management Processes & Practices.
