At Cadia you will play a part in the expansion of our Tier 1 operation developing Cadia into one of the largest, safest, most cost effective and technologically advanced block caving mines in the world. Currently we are undertaking stage three of Cadia’s mine life strategy by further developing our underground mine to include its 3rd panel, as well as increasing our ore handling and processing capability.

Operations near and far

Cadia Valley Operations is located in Central Western New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional town of Orange and a convenient three hours from the capital city of Sydney. Employees reside in varied accommodation options in and around the district of Orange with the surrounding area’s occupied by winery’s, stone fruit orchards, farming and national parks.

Employees have access to the area’s wide range of amenities, including a prominent health sector with a modern well-equipped regional hospital, excellent educational facilities, shopping, large selection of sport and recreation options, transport and other services such as childcare.

Who we’re looking for

We are now seeking Mechanical Technicians to join the Surface Fixed Plant Maintenance Team.

Reporting to Supervisor Fixed Plant, you will be responsible for assisting with preventative and breakdown maintenance of all Surface Fixed Plant equipment, including in general plant maintenance, shutdowns, fault-finding, and project work.

The key responsibilities for this role include (but are not limited to):

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment by performing Safe Work execution utilising Newcrest’s Critical Control Management framework and embedding our New Safe Behaviours into your activities to achieve our goal of zero fatalities or life altering injuries.
  • Willingness to learn and be a part of a team
  • Performing maintenance on crushers, conveyor systems, grinding mills, gravity circuits, vibrating screens, dewatering systems, dust collectors, ventilation systems, chilling plants, pumps and more. 
  • Monitoring and reporting on status of equipment
  • Assist with shutdown, co-ordination, and execution
  • Work in a diverse and inclusive environment to help achieve Cadia’s vision of a 50-year future

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A current trade qualification as either a Fitter, Fitter and Machinist or Welder combined with experience as a Fitter in Fixed Plant or underground mining is essential
  • Experience on various types of pumps, valves, pneumatic and hydraulics
  • The ability to identify major hazards within assigned tasks and implement the correct critical controls prior to starting any work
  • Current manual drivers’ licence
  • Basic computer skills and experience with SAP or similar system would be advantageous
