Mount Isa Mines is currently seeking a professional Metallurgist to join the production planning team, primarily supporting the Mount Isa Mines Copper and Lead Smelting assets. This permanent position is residentially based in Mount Isa.

The Role
Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist – Planning you will be responsible for supporting the copper and lead smelting assets to meet their production goals. This role will require well developed stakeholder engagement skills for delivering production planning tasks and metal accounting for production reporting related activities. The applicant will be required to apply an understanding of the production planning and metal balance systems to improve efficiency in this area.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Optimise future production activity to maximise profitability for the business.
  • Stock forecast and management for smelter assets.
  • Assist with end of month process including stocktake, metal balancing and work in progress reporting.
  • Report on variance to production plans on weekly and monthly timescales.
  • Evaluation of potential third-party feedstock for the smelter assets.
  • Assist in the development and roll out of logistic and production plans.

You will have the following skillset and attributes:

  • Overriding commitment to safety and ability to perform in the role while behaving in line with Glencore values;
  • Tertiary qualification in Metallurgy, Engineering or related field;
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in metallurgical industries, with production planning and metallurgical accounting experience;
  • Proficiency in using MS Office software;
  • Smelting experience is favourable, but not necessary;
