About the role:
We are currently seeking a Manager of Trade Operations to join the team in our Fortitude Valley office. Reporting to the Head of Seaborne Sales & Marketing, this role is responsible for daily operation and execution of Peabody’s thermal trading and sales strategies through design, administration and oversight of blending, quality management and customer support. Additionally, this position is responsible for contributing to Peabody’s sales book analysis and operation of risk-management systems.
Duties will include:
- Assisting in the commercial optimisation of the sales value chain for Peabody’s Australian thermal coal assets via taking ownership of blend planning, quality adherence, certification and improvement of shipment costs.
- Assist in the continuous assessment and valuation of Peabody’s seaborne portfolio and provide recommendations on commercial strategies to the Senior Manager Sales & Marketing that create value and/or align with Peabody’s overall strategy.
- Own Peabody’s thermal coal quality management process, including laboratory interactions, data capture and specification design.
- Offer commercial input into coal sales and purchase agreements and assist in drafting, negotiating and execution.
- Work cooperatively and effectively with operations to best define Peabody’s coal position and product options.
- Be the primary operator of the Peabody trading risk management system on behalf of the Australian seaborne trading team, ensuring all positions are accurately reflected daily.
- Offer enhanced analysis and reporting to monitor customer accounts sales data and trading positions, including reporting against variable P&L movements.
- Guide Peabody’s sales strategy and tactics through deep analysis of sales and benchmarking of performance for the wider seaborne sales portfolio.

About You:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Logistics or related field
- A minimum of 5 years of work experience within the resources industry, preferably in coal or other bulk commodity.
- Understanding of export commodity marketing fundamentals, trading, contracting and financial management (MtM accounting, working capital)
- Strong understanding of the value chain for bulk commodities (prior coal logistics experience is desirable).
- 3+ years of experience with coal quality, sufficient to develop related commercial strategies and marketing support documents.
- Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills with intermediate-to-advanced Microsoft office suite skills.
- Ability to build positive working relationships across operational and corporate functions as well as with external customers and suppliers.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills, ability to act and make decisions independently to quickly and effectively resolve issues and provide support for decisions.
- Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines and thrive in a fast-paced environment whilst maintaining attention to detail.
