Ashton - Owned by Yancoal, Ashton is an underground mine and coal handling preparation plant located in the beautiful Hunter Valley region of NSW. 

Job Tasks and Responsibilities

We are seeking a Mine Accountant to join our team at Ashton Coal Operation, located in Camberwell in the Hunter Valley region. Reporting to the Commercial Superintendent, you will be part of a dynamic and motivated team, responsible for the site accounting function.

Duties of the Mine Accountant will include;

  • Preparation of month end accounts and management reporting
  • Drive financial controls in line with Company policy and accounting standards
  • Be a key contributor to cost build up, analysis and other information for the monthly forecast and annual budgeting process
  • Undertake cost reporting and analysis to support sound business decisions and drive cost savings
  • Partner with operational departments to support commercial decision making
  • Facilitate cost review meetings with department leads, including identifying key variances to budget and providing recommendations for improvement
  • Support the asset management process including assisting in preparation of capital expenditure requests and ensuring timely capitalization of completed projects
  • Undertake general ledger and asset register maintenance

Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Commerce or Business
  • Minimum 3 years' post graduate qualifications experience, in mining or heavy industry (highly desirable)
  • CPA or CA qualified or currently studying towards (highly desirable)
  • High level of competency in MS Excel
  • Experience using Xeras and SAP (highly desirable)
  • Strong interpersonal skills including and outcome focused mindset and the ability to communicate effectively and influence leaders
