Mine Geologist 

Seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Mine Geologist to join our Integrated Planning team at Cadia and assist with provision of high-quality geological data to the business.

It is an exciting time to be a part of Newcrest’s journey to building Australia’s largest and most technically advanced block cave. We are building our mining development expertise for our panel caving expansion works for phase three to extend our vision of a 50-year mine life for Cadia.

Our Cadia site is located in Central West New South Wales, approximately 25 kms outside the vibrant regional town of Orange. Employees reside in the varied accommodation options in Orange, with the surrounding winery and national park areas to enjoy. Have access to the area’s wide range of amenities, including a prominent health sector, excellent educational facilities, shopping, recreation activities, transport and other services such as childcare.

 Who we are looking for

We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate Mine Geologist with an eye for detail to join our  Integrated Planning team at Cadia and assist with provision of high-quality geological data to the business. Reporting to the Senior Geologist (Projects and Drilling) and part of a high performing and collaborative team, this role focusses on ensuring that we have the safest possible workplace and that geological information is provided in an accurate and timely manner to allow the operation to make decisions.

The key deliverables of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the Safety Management System, ensuring a safety-first work culture; applying site safety standards, procedures and policies
  • Geological data collection and analysis accountabilities to include core logging, underground mapping, sampling and interpretation for final input into the acQuire and Point Studio Databases
  • Daily grade control activities of mine production and development of Cadia East Underground and other Cadia Valley resources
  • Assist in the management of diamond drill scheduling, planning and execution of programmes as directed by Senior Geologists
  • Improve or maintain best practise within all underground and surface geological requirements

 You are a naturally confident communicator and technically astute Mine Geologist with a solid understanding of diamond drilling designs, core logging, data analysis, excellent field mapping and interpretation skills. You work well autonomously and within a team.  

In addition to the above key skills, the below skillset will set you up for success:   

  • A relevant degree or tertiary qualification in Geology or Earth Science
  • Experience with drilling and contract management
  • Underground mapping would be advantageous
  • Competent in the use of geological software packages, experience using Vulcan, Leapfrog and Point Studio would be desirable
  • A valid Australian driver’s licence

 Please note: The current roster for this role is 5 days on/2 days off.
