We are seeking an experienced Mine Geologist to join our site-based team in Blackwater on an 8 on 6 off roster.

About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, this is a permanent, full-time position working a roster of 8 days on, 6 days off - dayshift only. Yarrabee will provide all the appropriate training for this role and there is scope for the right candidate to grow with the business.

As a Mine Geologist you will be required to:

  • Provide geology support and information through daily pit inspections and communication with production personnel
  • Production tracking and capture of accurate coal mining data to support the reconciliation process
  • Promote focus on best practice coal mining and coal recovery
  • Complete highwall mapping
  • Identify coal quality splits and ensure mining conformance
  • Complete geotechnical inspections and communicate geotechnical hazard controls with production personnel
  • Opportunity to develop structure and quality modelling skills in a complex geological setting

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geology and/or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Demonstrated experience working in an Open Cut Coal mining environment, especially in identifying and managing geological hazards
  • Hold a current Queensland drivers licence;
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one relational data base software package (preferably Vulcan/Minex).
  • Ability to manage multiple scopes of work.
  • Understanding of Coal Mining Safety & Health Legislation.
  • Ability to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Ability to communicate Geological information to various departments including Technical Services & Mining
