Mine Geologist
Work Location: Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.
Roster: 8D6R FIFO ex. Perth (Wednesday to Wednesday) Days Only.
Role overview:
The Christmas Creek Operations Planning team is seeking a highly motivated Mine Geologist. Reporting to the Senior Mine Geologist, their focus will be to use their knowledge of iron ore geology to complete block-out designs, using Vulcan, and to validate these designs in the field. They will be required to communicate this geological information in a safe, accurate, and timely manner to various stakeholders. They will also be required to communicate effectively with mining and engineering teams to also ensure consistent grade control. To be successful in this role, candidates must have strong interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills.
Key responsibilities include:
- Complete technical tasks using Vulcan or equivalent software to deliver grade designs in a timely and accurate manner
- Ensure that all plans are communicated in a safe, accurate, and timely manner to various stakeholders.
- Ensure that grade control on stockpiles is accurate and consistent with planned objectives.
- Communicate and work closely with technical and engineering teams to maximise daily and weekly plans.
- Communicate effectively and provide accurate geological data and advice to mining teams on a regular basis.
- Ensure compliance to the FMG standards and statutory obligations
Qualification and Experience:
- Experience gained as a mining or drilling geologist within iron ore
- Tertiary Bachelors qualification, gained in field of Geology or related discipline
- Some working knowledge of Vulcan desirable.
- Strong leadership skills and interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Current WA C-Class manual driver’s Licence.
