Silver Lake Resources is an established and successful ASX 200 Gold producer and explorer in an active expansion phase, with a proposed merger of equals with Red 5 set to create a leading mid-tier ASX Gold producer.
The Santa Open Pit is a strategic addition to Silver Lake’s Mount Monger Operations (MMO), providing further baseload feed to the Randalls Mill. Santa is currently a 5-year project that commenced in April 2024 and will include cutbacks of the existing pit walls of the previous UG mine, as well as major new pit development. With several additional potential Open Pits on the MMO lease, including the Rumbles, Flora Dora and French Kiss prospects, this role offers the opportunity to impact the direction of multiple start up, cut-back and consolidation projects.
THE ROLE:
Reporting to the General Manager, the Open Pit Manager will take overall responsibility for the operation of all open pit projects, including people leadership, mine planning and production, contract negotiations, contractor management and safety. Your focus will be to ensure safe, smooth, continuous mining, minimising interactions and optimising mining rates. Your strong technical background will allow you to guide and support the LOM planning and mine design functions, while your commercial nous will see you develop and deliver to an appropriate budget. Your engaging leadership style and vision will enable your team to reach their potential, as well as work effectively toward clear goals.
Your responsibilities include:
- Ensure statutory compliance with relevant legislation for all open pit activities
- Guide and oversee Mine Planning and scheduling from monthly to LOM
- Update economic models of the LOM plan and budget
- Complete economic assessment of mining options
- Perform conceptual studies on prospective mining areas
- Complete financial evaluations and optimisations of planning and production activities
- Provide regular technical review and feedback of the Mining team production output
- Lead daily and pre-shift and morning meetings providing direction on daily mining activities
- Generate quarterly forecasting of activities on a monthly basis
- Foster strong working relationships with project contractors and other stakeholders
- Effectively manage any commercial contracts including claims review and non-conformance
- Development of any scope of works and tender assessment for new works
- Undertake daily open pit inspections
- Complete required end of month and all statutory reporting
- Review and issue work instructions to the Mine Foreman and contractors
- Review surface management activities including waste dump inspection weekly
- Ensure compliance with all environmental requirements for site
- Hold the position of Senior Site Executive from time to time as required
ABOUT YOU
You are a self-motivated and technically astute professional with a wealth of experience in mid-size open pit operations. Your calm manner and advanced skills in developing and maintaining exceptional interpersonal relationships will see you get the best out of both contractor partnerships and your team. You have well-developed financial and commercial skills and understand how to get the best out of a contract for all parties.
You can demonstrate:
- Formal qualifications in Mining Engineering or similar tertiary degree
- Significant experience in open pit hard rock mining, preferably in Gold mining
- Previous experience in Open Pit Mine Planning to LOM
- Demonstrated experience in management positions
- WA unrestricted Quarry Managers Certificate of Competency
- Demonstrated ability to optimise production
- Demonstrated business, operational and planning acumen
- Advanced leadership skills, including coaching and mentoring technical skills
- Experience using mining software, preferably Datamine, Surpac, Whittle and EPS
- Dangerous Goods accreditation
This position is offered as either a FIFO role from Perth, or DIDO from Kalgoorlie, with a preferred roster pattern of 8:6, 4:3 negotiable for the right person. An excellent base salary, in addition to a short- and long-term incentive scheme, will be offered in line with expectations and responsibilities of this role.
