About the Role

Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Planning, you will be integral member of a dynamic and results driven team. This role’s primary focus is providing mining schedules for the one 1 month to two year time horizon & will be responsible for creating mine plans that consider all aspects of the mining cycle and are optimised to create maximum value for Olympic Dam. This role will see you develop influential relationships with multiple functions and stakeholders, including senior leadership. You will be required to work directly with site leadership and planning professionals in order to ensure long term strategic value is captured once executed in the near term. You will also have access to excellent career opportunities as this role has been designed to broaden appreciation of the entire value chain through interaction with processing, finance, projects, operations, marketing, geoscience and geotechnical disciplines. These interactions will enable you to demonstrate your commercial acumen and strategic thinking skills through delivery of high-quality planning. This position is based in Adelaide, offering flexible conditions.  Some routine site travel to Olympic Dam is required. In this role you will:  

  • Produce monthly/quarterly/budget plans that have had been optimized to meet all required safety, mining and business constraints.
  • Provide and communicate risks and opportunities from the executable plans you have produced to functional and mine leadership teams.
  • Drive continuous improvement through plan on plan compliance tracking and communication of mitigating strategies where required.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers to enable a high performing team and a culture of care.
  • Participate in field leadership activities to drive improvements within our safety culture and to build cross functional relationships.

About You

Ideally you would have tertiary qualifications in Engineering (e.g. Mining/Civil), and significant mining industry experience, with a deep understanding of the key value drivers and mine planning strategies across a range of commodities and geographies. You will have:

  • Have a solid background in underground mine planning and design.
  • Able to develop planning strategies, identify, escalate potential risks and mitigating actions.
  • Competency in appropriate mine planning software platforms. Deswik preferred but not essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence.
  • Proven ability to influence and mentor others in HSEC principles and behaviours.
  • Understanding of project management principles such as theory of constraints, lean or TPS.
