Managed by Yancoal, Premier Coal is the leading coal producer in Western Australia.  Operating an open cut coal mine near Collie in the South West of WA, the operation produces coal for the domestic market with contracts to 2030.  

About the Role

As the Mine Planning Superintendent reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading a team that includes mining engineers and surveyors,
  • Identifying obstacles and implementing strategies to achieve budgeted production and commercial targets,
  • Managing the process of developing improvements to the survey, mine planning and drill & blast management methods and systems,
  • Providing accurate mine plans to allow all operational activities to be delivered to contract specifications,
  • Working closely with the maintenance team with scheduled servicing plans and identifying issues that impact production,
  • Identifying and acting upon continuous improvement opportunities in the technical service area,
  • Assisting to achieve project KPIs and setting of objectives and KPIs for work teams as needed,
  • Providing clear leadership and direction and promoting and fostering a positive team culture,
  • Providing coaching, mentoring and development opportunities for direct reports,
  • Developing and managing the site production forecast to meet contract volumes and requirements.

About You

  • Proven leadership experience of a technical services team in a medium to large scale mining operations is preferred,
  • Competent user of mine planning and scheduling software (Spry, Vulcan, etc.),
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Surveying or Geology,
  • Strong ability to communicate technical information to all work groups,
  • Contribute to and promote a safe, healthy work environment for all employees and contractors to assist in providing a safe and incident free workplace.
