We are currently seeking a Mining Engineer to consistently support the Integrated Operations team in Brisbane by providing reliable, accurate and sustainable mine planning services and support, in order to position Mining and Plant operations for optimal performance aligned with shipping and marketing requirements.

The main objective of the Mining Engineer is to transform the Long-Term Plan into operational detail acting as a bridge between Long Term and Production Engineers. This role is also critical to enable the planning team to evaluate risks, seize new opportunities, react quickly and properly to changes caused by internal and external factors and simultaneously maintaining uniformity with the agreed targets. The planning horizon is six (weeks) but it can be extended up to twelve (12) weeks if the situation requires it.

The principal accountability of the Mining Engineer is to produce the six (6) weeks plan based on targets agreed with Site Leaders. Reporting to the Operations Planning Superintendent, the main components of achieving the minimum required standard include:

  • Transforming the Long-Term plan into operational detail. The fundamental priority behind this is to balance continual delivery of bauxite aligned with shipping requirements.
  • Carry out meetings with relevant stakeholders to set the targets for the month
  • Providing an updated direction on the mines position to steer the operations back on track following deviations to plan.
  • Identify risks and opportunities and discuss them in relevant meetings.
  • Produce monthly plan strings and distribute to Production Engineers.
  • Provide grade and tonnes advice to Dynamic Scheduling.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor/master’s degree of Engineering or a related discipline
  • Detailed understanding of Truck / Loader scheduling and operation
  • Practical understanding of all other mining design, scheduling, and operation
  • Basic understanding of supply chain management.
  • Sound level of proficiency in basic business software (Excel, Word and PowerPoint or similar)
  • Basic proficiency in business management software (SAP or similar)
  • High level of proficiency in CAD mining software, preferably Deswik and / or similar
  • Excellent numerical analysis and data validation skills
  • Knowledge of relevant mining legislation and industry practices
