About the role Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will be responsible for optimising the short, medium and long term mine planning process for Metropolitan, ensuring costs, budgets and targets are achieved.   Responsibilities will include:

  • Planning and scheduling - manage the short, medium and long term scheduling requirements of the mine
  • XPAC underground mine scheduling, data base maintenance and scripting
  • Develop and administer day to day key mine performance indicators and charts
  • Participate in risk assessment process that require technical input in mine planning, ventilation, gas drainage or project management
  • Become a member of the outburst review committee for permit to mine approvals
  • Project manage key activities as required to advance mine development
  • Provide support to other technical service functions
  • Assist in preparation of budget and forecast processes
  • Building relationships with the operational teams to implement designs, plans and schedules in relation with production targets
  • Identifying and implementing productivity improvements and optimising designs to maximise profitability
  • Communicating plans, enabling activities and risk/opportunity to superintendents, managers and other key team members

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or equivalent
  • You will need to be a high performing engineer with  around 2-3 years’ experience as a mining engineer preferably in underground coal mining
  • Proficient in a variety of mine planning software including XPAC, AutoCad, Vulcan and Ventsim, MS Office suite and project management software (Microsoft Project) 
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and ability to foster and maintain a positive safety culture
  • Strong interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, a “can do” attitude and able to work with minimal supervision to develop concepts through to implementation
