Iron Bridge is Fortescue’s US$2.6 billion project, set to deliver 22mtpa of high grade 67% Fe magnetite concentrate product. Located 145km by road south of Port Hedland, the mine will deliver an innovative process design and industry-leading energy efficient operation

Position Title – Mining Engineer (3-Month Planning Engineer)

Work Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.

Roster: 4D/3R, 8D/6R FIFO ex Perth

Role overview:

We are looking for a motivated mining engineer to join our Iron Bridge operations as a 3-month planning engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new, large and deep pit greenfield operations.

The role is a special chance to shape the operation of major project, working primarily on a 4/3 roster at the Iron Bridge site with some work in the Perth corporate office. Reporting to the Senior Mine Planning Engineer, you will be performing the critical function of solving and scheduling medium term material movements, D&B, and ore feed. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, problem solving and teamwork.

Key accountabilities include: 

  • Produce, present, and reconcile the 3 month mine plan including, drill and blast, mining, ore feed, construction, and mine activities
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders including geometallugy, mine geology, mine operations, and processing
  • Produce and/or review designs for operational execution and scheduling
  • Develop and improve the mine planning software model in APS
  • Attend and meaningfully contribute to planning and operations meetings
  • Be actively involved in safety and risk including hazards reporting and safety investigations

Desired Qualification and Skills: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in a mining industry related discipline or equivalent operational experience, with previous experience in open pit (preferably Hard Rock) mining
  • Intermediate level for Maptek Vulcan and Alastri software including RR, HI and APS scheduling, and ideally excellent computer skills including MS Office products such as MS Excel, MS Word, Power BI, Power Automate and Power Apps
  • Excellent verbal and written skills including technical writing, and ability to work effectively unsupervised
  • A strong desire to innovate, problem solve and approach work with new ideas
  • Good project management, report writing and effective communication skills Experience with mining cost estimation
  • Valid manual car licence
