We are seeking a Mining Engineer to deliver reliable, accurate, and sustainable mine planning services to optimise both Mining and Plant operations in alignment with shipping and commercial requirements. This critical role supports the planning team in evaluating scenarios, seizing new opportunities, and responding to changes driven by internal and external factors, all while ensuring consistency with the targets outlined in the Annual Plan.

Reporting to the Operations Planning Superintendent, and working closely with the Operations Planning team, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing the monthly plan based on the targets set in the quarterly plan.

  • Translating the quarterly plan into operational details, with the primary focus on maintaining a continuous bauxite supply that aligns with shipping requirements.

  • Providing up-to-date guidance on the mine’s status, ensuring corrective actions are taken when deviations from the plan occur.

  • Coordinating with relevant stakeholders to gather necessary inputs for the monthly plan.

  • Monitoring plan implementation, tracking progress against actuals, and submitting Mid-Month and End-of-Month reconciliations.

  • Engaging with customers and stakeholders to ensure the success of the mine planning process.

  • Leading by example and demonstrating behaviours that align with RTA’s values, consistently promoting safe leadership practices.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

  • Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related discipline

  • Demonstrated experience within mining operations with experience in productivity improvement

  • Excellent numerical analysis and data validation skills

  • Preparation of accurate and achievable monthly development plans

  • Ability to engage with frontline leaders and key stakeholders to deliver outcomes

  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Deswik.

  • The motivation and ability to be self-driven and work autonomously

Where you’ll be working

Our Weipa operations in Far North Queensland includes three bauxite mines, processing facilities, shiploaders, an export wharf, two ports, power stations, a rail network and ferry terminals. Amrun, our newest mine, was completed in 2018 and will extend our Weipa bauxite operations by decades, significantly building on our 55-year history on the Western Cape, and providing jobs and supporting business growth in the region. The mine is located on traditional land. We work closely with the Traditional Owners to implement our agreements, ensuring that the benefits generated from mining support future generations and that important cultural heritage sites are identified and preserved.Applications close on Tuesday, 6th May 2025 (Rio Tinto reserves the right to remove advertised roles prior to this date)
