The MTW Mine is the largest open cut operation in the region, employing approximately 1,450 people who reside in the local and surrounding communities.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
Yancoal MTW is currently seeking an experienced and motivated Mining Engineer to join our team. You will be a part of our Technical Services team who are responsible for short, medium and long term mine planning, drill and blast engineering, pit geology and survey. Our planning scope and close working relationships with Mine Operations allows us to support our people to develop their skills and reach their potential.
The Mining Engineer position is within the Mine Planning team and is responsible for delivering quality engineering outputs through designing, monitoring and communicating effective mine designs and schedules. Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer and working a Monday – Friday roster. This role requires strong engagement with key stakeholders; primarily mining operations, as well as:
- Direct involvement in the development of daily, weekly and monthly plans.
- Support the development of budget, 5-year plan processes and LOM plans per Yancoal requirements, including schedules, financials and forward work plans;
- Liaise and engage with the operational, projects and E&C teams to ensure delivery of the plan;
- Evaluate mine planning options to improve operational efficiency;
- Coach and mentor other team members, including graduates;
- Monitor compliance to legislative requirements and site standards; and
- Apply a continuous improvement methodology to all that you do.

To be successful in the role you will also display the following skills and attributes
Essential Criteria:
- A Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or related engineering discipline;
- Previous experience in mine planning within an Open Cut Coal Mining environment.
- Experience with CAD design software packages such as Deswik, shot plus, Minex or Vulcan.
- An eye for detail and an ability to develop practical and achievable mine designs and schedules;
- Strong communication and time management skills;
- Ability to build relationships and influence key stakeholders across the business
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills;
- NSW driver’s license.
