Mining Engineer

Our KOTH Open Pit Technical Services team is seeking a Mining Engineer to join us as we transition to an owner-operator model in 2027.

King of the Hills (KOTH) is the flagship operation of Vault Minerals Limited and one of the largest gold mines in Australia. Undergoing significant expansion, KOTH is nearing completion of a 7.5 million tonne per annum (Mtpa) processing plant (previously 5.2Mtpa), providing a solid platform for long-term production growth. This dynamic operation combines open-pit and underground mining, with exciting exploration activities driving the future. KOTH is located approximately 900 km northeast of Perth and 25 km north of Leonora, within the Goldfields Region of Western Australia.

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, the Open Pit Mining Engineer is responsible for contribute to the effective operation of the King of the Hills Gold Mine through the design and delivery of open pit production plans, drill and blast plans, interim designs, reporting and reconciliation of production targets and continuous improvement of mining productivity.

This position will be offered on an 8:6 roster FIFO from Perth

Key responsibilities of this role will include:

• Develop, maintain and improve site data tracking and reconciliation practices and systems.
• Undertake engineering project and interim work for operations as required.
• Provide engineering support to Geologists, Mine Surveyors, mine services contractor as required.
• Software and planning gap analysis and data analysis as required .
• Monitor the engineering systems and business processes, identify and prioritise improvement opportunities and formulate alternatives and improvements to systems and methods.
• Support the delivery of practical 13 weeks plans in line with budget and forecast and all on site principal engineering.
• Peer review work by other engineers.

Mine Planning Accountabilities

• Deliver practical two-week mine plans aligned with budget and forecast requirements, and develop conceptual scenarios to support short- to medium-term planning objectives.
• Deliver detailed bench development and production plans to ensure the achievement of quarterly mining targets and operational objectives.

Production Accountabilities

• Deliver practical daily plans in line with Weekly plans
• Assist in developing and updating streamlined reports and reporting systems development.
• Update and maintain FMS databases, including material tracking and production events.
• Analyse FMS data to generate reports on fleet metrics, identifying trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement, such as in Wencomine for time usage and operator performance

Drill and Blast Accountabilities

• Deliver detailed drill and blast designs, including drill plans, blast master development, reconciliation plans, drill and blast packs, and tie-in plans for contractors.
• Coordinate and communicate blast designs with contractors, conduct blast reviews, and analyse outcomes to drive continuous improvement and operational efficiency.

About You

• Previous experience within an open pit hard rock or gold mining environment, supported by a Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience optimising mine plans to improve operational efficiency, increase production, and reduce costs, developing mine tracking and reconciliation systems, and working within contract mining environments.
• Working knowledge and understanding of the WA Work Health & Safety Act (2020) and Work Health & Safety (Mines) Regulations (2022).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement and operational performance.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and mining software such as Deswik , Vulcan, Surpac
• Hold a current WA Driver’s License (manual C Class)
