Mining Engineer

About the role: We are currently seeking a Mining Engineer to join our Wilpinjong mine.  Our Wilpinjong mine is an open-cut mine located 58 kilometres northeast of Mudgee producing a high quality thermal coal for export and domestic markets.  Wilpinjong is a multi-seam operation utilising truck / excavator and dozer push methods to uncover and mine coal to produce approximately 14mtpa.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the scope of your role will be to develop short to medium term shedules and operational designs.  You will be required to actively engage with key stakeholders to communicate the schedule and mine designs and ensure production processes are optimised in order to continuously improve operational efficiencies. 

You will be challenged technically in a dynamic environment, mining multiple coal seams of different qualities and accommodating schedules and design to meet changing markets.  You will be rewarded with a collaborative relationship with production and an environment where fresh ideas and change is embraced.  You will also have the opportunity to continue developing technical skills across drill & blast and mid term planning.

Duties will include:

• Actively participate in promoting site safety, environmental, health and quality of mining activities
• Develop, communicate and optimize truck / shovel and dozer push scheduling and mine designs, ranging from weekly to 3-monthly
• Development of dump schedules and ensure adherence to dump design
• Analyse production data and statistics to amend schedules accordingly
• Liaise with Production, CHPP and Maintenance departments to obtain input and ensure designs are achievable, productive and adhere to all required safety controls
• Liaise with Long-Term Planning team to ensure mine designs align to mid and long-term strategies
• Provide technical input into operational designs and projects including highlighting areas of Continuous Improvement
• Primary coverage for Drill & Blast Engineer

About you:

• Relevant degree qualification in Mining Engineering
• 2 years experience in open cut mining at truck / shovel operation (dozer push will be highly regarded)
• Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
• High level analytical and problem solving skills
• Commitment to continuous improvement and operational efficiency
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Vulcan, Spry and Blast Logic will be highly regarded
• A staunch commitment to safety and continuous improvement as a way of life
