Mining Engineer - Designs
Work location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.
Roster: Monday to Friday
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Mining Engineer to join our Perth-based planning and design team. Reporting to the Senior Medium Term Planning Engineer, this role is responsible for carrying out a range of design activities to support production at Christmas Creek Mine.
The role will also be required to undertake activities related to short-term production scheduling associated with the delivery of 3-month, 2-week and Daily mine plans to set standards. To be successful in this role, the candidate must have strong technical and interpersonal skills with both operational and longer (2 year) planning intervals and be able to articulate potential risks and opportunities. Although the role is Perth based, some site travel is expected on an ad hoc basis.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Deliver optimised, operational pit designs and related infrastructure designs for safe and effective operation
- Coordinating with various stakeholders
- Able to identify and implement cost saving measures
- Must be capable of understanding design standards, procedures and mine physicals
- Haulage scheduling, optimisation, waste dump designs and schedules
- Adherence to quality design standards
Qualifications and skills required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or similar
- Strong Vulcan skills along with good computer proficiency
- Relevant experience gained as a mining engineer with planning and design experience
- Practical approach to engineering and design problems
- Knowledge in open pit mining preferably in iron ore and surface mining
- Short to medium term planning and scheduling and mine design knowledge
- Strong analytical skills
