About the Role

This is a technical role within the CVM Mine Scheduling team accountable for dragline design and planning requirements. This includes creation of pit designs for draglines and bulk push dozers for use by mine scheduling, drill and blast planning and operations execution. These designs are inputs into the mine production schedule and execution plans for the production teams to enable delivery against the mine site Budget and SRF commitments. This role is also responsible for management of reconciliation of dragline and dozer push designs and compliance to design and the mine plan. This role is based at the Caval Ridge Mine, Central Queensland on a 8/6 Tuesday to Tuesday roster, with flexible working arrangements available.

About You

As a successful candidate, you will possess a tertiary qualification or extensive experience in mining engineering with previous experience working at an open cut coal mining operation. You will have:   

  • 3+ years’ experience in draglines and dozer push or truck and shovel design and/or execution.
  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a relevant field in overburden mining.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills and knowledge in overburden design theory and concepts, products and accessories, tools & applications, operations and field management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience associated with mine planning processes and tasks. Ability to provide inputs and guidance into overburden design and the mine production schedule.
  • Demonstrated experience with specialist mine planning design and mine planning software and tools.
  • All required site statutory competencies as referenced in the site management structure, site health and safety management system and/or BMA policy.
  • Proficiency with a range of mine design and scheduling software packages including SPRY, Vulcan, and Deswik CAD;
  • Complex problem solving skills;
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

Your strong communication and interpersonal skills will allow you to work closely across a variety of operational and functional teams to deliver a safe and stable mine plan aligned to the site and business direction. You will utilise BHP Operating Systems to lead mine planning improvement initiatives, build and maintain trusted relationships across departments and communicate effectively with disciplines at all levels.
