Mining Engineer - Drill and Blast 

Work Location: Christmas Creek - Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine is located on the traditional lands of the Nyiyaparli people.

Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex. Perth

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Mining Engineer – Drill and Blast to join the short-term planning team at our Christmas Creek Operations. Reporting to the Senior Drill & Blast Engineer, this role is responsible for conducting drill and blast design, scheduling activities and continuous improvement projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Complete drill and blast designs effectively to achieve optimal fragmentation & maintain drill productivity
  • Ensuring mining operations are supported in maintaining sufficient blasted stock in line with the mine plan requirements and blast performance expectations
  • Ensure that Fortescue meets commitments to our Traditional owners around Blast vibration and monitoring
  • Undertaking analytics and identifying improvement opportunities
  • Provide inputs for all planning horizons (2-week to 2-year)
  • Coordinating with all stakeholders including geology, weekly planning, drill and blast operations, production and mine development teams

Qualification and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong technical drill and blast knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrated drill & blast engineering and mining operational knowledge
  • Experience in vibration sensitive blasting and monitoring is preferred
