Mining Engineer - Drill & Blast

Work Location: Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine is located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples.

Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex. Perth

We are seeking a highly motivated mining engineer to join our Cloudbreak Operations Planning team as a Mining Engineer – Drill and Blast.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Performing the drill and blast engineering daily tasks, for a mine that produces 50Mt Product per annum across different pits
  • Complete drill and blast designs effectively to achieve optimal fragmentation & drill efficiency
  • Sequence plan of Drilling, Loading, and Blasting for 2-week and 3-month space
  • Ensure that Fortescue meets commitments to our Traditional owners around Blast vibration and monitoring
  • Undertaking analytics and identifying improvement opportunities
  • Coordinating with all stakeholders including Geology, Survey, 2 week planning, Production, Mine development, and DB Operations teams.

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Relevant experience gained as a mining engineer with drill and blast experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or similar
  • Effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders with varying technical knowledge
  • Practical approach to engineering and design problems
  • Computer proficiency (Excel, MS Office, Vulcan, Alastri, BlastLogic)
