Mining Engineer - Drill & Blast

Work Location: Solomon - Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi people.

Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex. Perth

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Drill and Blast Engineer to join our operations. Reporting to the Senior Drill and Blast Engineer, this role is responsible for carrying out detailed drill and blast designs and providing technical support to the drill and blast operations team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver high quality drill and blast designs that ensure safe and continuous production
  • Complete daily, weekly, and monthly reporting on drill and blast operational performance
  • Optimise drill and blast designs for fragmentation and cost
  • Measure and reconcile blast results and identify improvements
  • Oversee the use of bulk blasting agents and accessories, and work with contractors by measuring consumption and placing orders to maintain stock levels
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders including drill and blasts ops, mining, survey, geology and planning
  • Adhere to site standards and processes to protect heritage and infrastructure vibration sensitive sites
  • Provide Technical input and analysis for the weekly, 3-month and 2-year mine plans

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or similar
  • At least 2 years' experience as a Drill and Blast Engineer
  • Practical approach to engineering and design problems
  • Knowledge in open pit mining, preferably in iron ore
  • Computer proficiency (Excel, MS Office, Vulcan, BlastLogic, ViewShot, PowerBI)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, along with solid interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Class C manual WA driver’s licence
