Mining Engineer – Medium Term Planning (2 Year)

Work Location: Perth - Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people.

Roster: Monday to Friday

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Mining Engineer to join our Perth-based Medium-Term Planning team on a 5/2 roster. Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer Medium Term Planning, this role is responsible for carrying out coordination of 2 Year Mining Schedules along with coordination of mine development projects and associated designs to support production at the Cloudbreak operations.

To be successful in this role candidates must have strong interpersonal skills with both operational and technical teams, shorter and medium-term planning experience, and be able to articulate potential risks and opportunities within the planned works.

   Key accountabilities include:

• Timely delivery of the 2-year mine plan and designs, with the aim to translate the 10 year strategic plan into an operational mine plan
• Delivering product quality, pit progression, waste schedules, fleet requirements and other technical guidance as required
• Liaise with support functions, including Approvals, Geology, Geotechnical and Hydrogeology, to understand risk and opportunities to the operation and to enable the timely achievement of mining milestones
• Coordination of multiple stakeholders in mine development projects to distribute resources effectively and meet critical deadlines for delivery
• Identify risks and opportunities to the work produced

Qualifications and skills required:

• Bachelor degree in mining engineering or similar
• Relevant experience gained as a mining engineer in medium-term planning and mining operations
• Practical approach to engineering and design problems and strong ability to take initiative
• Knowledge in open pit mining preferably in iron ore
• Computer proficiency (Excel, MS Office, Vulcan, ATS, Haul Infinity, Rapid Reserver).
• Strong analytical skills
• Strong interpersonal skills with both operations and technical teams
• Team orientation and strong ability to take initiative
• Excellent communication/presentation skills with the ability to convey technical detail, potential risks, and opportunities within the planned works to a variety of stakeholders
