Mining Engineer – Medium Term Planning (3 Month)
Work Location: Cloudbreak -Fortescue’s Cloudbreak mine is located on the traditional lands of the Palyku and Nyiyaparli peoples.
Roster: 4D/3R FIFO ex. Perth
We are currently seeking a highly motivated Mining Engineer to join the Medium-Term Planning team at our Cloudbreak mine site. Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer Medium Term Planning, this role is responsible for carrying out coordination of 3 Month Mining Schedules along with coordination of mine development projects and associated designs. To be successful in this role candidates must have strong interpersonal skills with both operational, shorter and medium-term planning intervals, and being able to articulate potential risks and opportunities within the planned works.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Scheduling mining and other associate activities to varied planning horizons
- Timely delivery of plans, designs and schedules to meet internal delivery timelines
- Liaise with support functions, including Approvals, Geology, Geotechnical and Hydrogeology, to understand risk and opportunities to the operation and to enable timely achievement of mining milestones
- Coordination of multiple stakeholders in mine development projects to distribute resources effectively and meet critical deadlines for delivery
- Communicating options, designs and plans with relevant stakeholders
- Delivering product quality, pit progression, waste schedules, fleet requirements and other technical guidance as required
- Identify risks and opportunities to the work produced
Qualifications and skills required:
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or similar
- Relevant experience gained as a mining engineer in medium-term planning and mining operations
- Practical approach to engineering and design problems and strong ability to take initiative
- Knowledge in open pit mining preferably in iron ore
- Computer proficiency (Excel, MS Office, Vulcan, ATS, Haul Infinity, Rapid Reserver).
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal skills with both operations and technical teams
- Team orientation and strong ability to take initiative
- Excellent communication/presentation skills with the ability to convey technical detail, potential risks, and opportunities within the planned works to a variety of stakeholders
