Iron Bridge is Fortescue’s US$2.6 billion project, set to deliver 22mtpa of high grade 67% Fe magnetite concentrate product. Located 145km by road south of Port Hedland, the mine will deliver an innovative process design and industry-leading energy efficient operation.

Mining Engineer - Short Term Planning

Work Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.

Roster: 8/6 (Wednesday to Wednesday)

We are looking for a motivated mining engineer to join our Iron Bridge operations as a Short-Term Planning Engineer. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new, large and deep pit greenfield operations.

The role is a special opportunity to shape the operation of major project, working an 8/6 roster at the Iron Bridge site. This would suit a mining professional who is looking for a challenging and engaging role. Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will be performing the critical function of solving and scheduling short term material movements, D&B, ore feed and mine activities. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, problem solving and team work.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Produce, present and reconcile an activity based monthly plan including geological drilling, drill and blast, mining, ore feed, construction and mine activities
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders including geometallugy, mine geology, mine operations, and processing
  • Produce and/or review designs for operational execution and scheduling
  • Compile Work Packages & permits as required by mining operations
  • Attend and meaningfully contribute to planning and operations meetings
  • Be actively involved in safety and risk including hazards reporting and safety investigations

Desired Qualifications and Skills:

  • Good attitude to HSEC including hazard reporting, investigations and field interactions, with a strong desire to innovate, problem solve and approach work with new ideas
  • Excellent verbal and written skills including technical writing, with good report writing and effective communication skills
  • Previous experience in open pit (preferably Hard Rock) mining and 1-2 years in similar roles
  • Tertiary qualifications in a mining industry related discipline or equivalent operational experience
  • Intermediate level for Vulcan and Alastri scheduling and ARC-GIS software
  • Experience with mining costs including project management, mining contract accruals, or cost estimation
  • Exposure to Fleet Management Systems
  • Programming, especially python, C/C++ and VBA
