Mining Engineer - Short Term Planning (Daily) 

Work Location: Iron Bridge - Fortescue’s Iron Bridge project is located on the traditional lands of the Nyamal people.

Roster: 8D/6R FIFO ex Perth

We are looking for a motivated mining engineer to join our Iron Bridge operations as a daily planner. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new, large and deep pit greenfield operations.

The role is a special opportunity to shape the operation of major project, working an 8/6 roster at the Iron Bridge site. This would suit a mining professional who is looking for a challenging and engaging role. Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, you will be performing the critical function of solving and scheduling daily material movements, mine activities and ore feed. The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, problem solving and teamwork.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Produce, present and reconcile the daily plan including geological drilling, drill and blast, mining, ore feed, construction and mine activities
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders including geometallurgy, mine geology, mine operations and processing
  • Review designs for operational execution
  • Review work packages & permits so they are practical and suitable for execution
  • Attend and meaningfully contribute to planning and operations meetings
  • Be actively involved in safety and risk including hazards reporting and safety investigations

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ability to work effectively unsupervised
  • Good attitude to HSEC including hazard reporting, investigations and field interactions
  • A strong desire to innovate, problem solve and approach work with new ideas
  • Excellent verbal and written skills including technical writing
  • Good report writing and effective communication skills
  • Previous experience in open pit (preferably Hard Rock) mining and 1-2 years in similar roles
  • Tertiary qualifications in a mining industry related discipline or equivalent operational experience
  • Experience with mining costs including project management, mining contract accruals, or cost estimation
  • Intermediate level for Vulcan and Alastri scheduling and ARC-GIS software
  • Intermediate level for MS Office products including MS Excel, MS Word, Power BI, Power Automate and Power Apps
  • Understand and be able to modify and use SQL databases
  • Exposure to CAT Minestar Terrain system
  • Programming, especially python, C/C++ and VBA
  • Quarry Manager Certificate will be looked on favourably but not essential
  • Valid manual car licence
