About the Role

This role is based at the Caval Ridge Mine (CVM), Central Queensland on a 4:3 (Monday to Thursday) roster with Fly-In Fly-Out (Brisbane or Cairns), Drive-In-Drive-Out or Bus-In Bus-Out (Mackay only). Flexible work options including flexible rosters and work-from-home options available to the right candidate.

Reporting to the Lead Scheduler - this is a technical and leadership role within the CVM Mine Scheduling team accountable for development and delivery of the Mine Production Schedule from Month+1 through to Month+18 horizon. Responsibilities within the role include:

  • Management and integration of key inputs including Time Usage Model (TUM).

  • Liaising with Tactical teams on pit shells, reserves and sequencing to ensure Short-Term execution. 

  • Schedule optimisation and identification of future bottlenecks.

  • Development and communication of scheduling outputs to Site Leadership and Integration teams.  

  • Providing direction to the production execution teams to enable delivery against the mine site Budget and SRF commitments.

This role will allow you to use your strong communication and interpersonal skills to work closely across a variety of operational and functional teams to deliver a safe and stable mine plan aligned to the site and business direction. You will utilise BHP Operating Systems to lead mine planning improvement initiatives, build and maintain trusted relationships across departments and communicate effectively with disciplines at all levels. 

About You

As a successful candidate, you will possess a tertiary qualification or extensive experience in mining engineering with previous experience working at an open cut coal mining operation. You will have:

  • Demonstrated strong commitment to safety leadership.

  • 5+ years’ experience in at least two (2) of the following mining engineering disciplines: Scheduling, Haulage Planning, Medium-Term (MT) design, Drill & Blast, Truck Stripping design, Dragline & Dozers Push design, and/or Coal Production Planning.

  • Demonstrated advanced skills and knowledge of scheduling concepts in open-cut mining.

  • Understanding of product supply chain, operations and field management.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience associated with mine planning processes and tasks. Ability to provide inputs and guidance into design and the mine production schedule.

  • Demonstrated experience with a range of mine design and scheduling software packages (SPRY, Vulcan and/or Deswik CAD are highly desired);

  • Complex problem solving skills;

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
