About the role

Opportunities are currently available for Mining Engineers and Mine Planning Schedulers to join our operations across our BMA assets. Reporting to the Mine Planning/Scheduling Superintendent we are looking to fill positions across our Caval Ridge, Daunia, Saraji, Peak Downs and Goonyella site(s).

This is great opportunity to hone your mine planning leadership skills and further develop a deep understanding of the key value drivers for a complex open cut mining operation.

You will be accountable for proactively overseeing and leading safe planning processes, collaborating across teams to lead systemic improvements in existing safety processes and increasing the safety and health management capability of existing leaders and others with statutory qualifications. 

These roles can be offered as Drive-In-Drive-Out or Residentially based - Or Fly-in-Fly-Out travel and on flexible rostering arrangements.

In this role, you’ll get the chance to:

  • Drive projects independently, from technical mine design to execution;
  • Learn and develop agile work routines, assisting with the mine planning teams’ adaptation;
  • Develop and apply process standards and start using them on new projects;
  • Begin writing useful technical documentation to support evolving processes
  • Mentor more junior members

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare Truck & Shovel, Dragline, Prestrip, Haulage and Dozerpush designs and schedules to optimise for safe and productive operations;
  • Build and maintain close working relationship with Mine Operation teams;
  • Minimise downtime and delay of operational activities through optimising the mining sequences, identifying key enabling activities and reducing interactions;
  • Identify interactions and key enabling activities and put plans in place to manage them;
  • Identify, develop and implement Mine Planning improvement initiatives & follow standards and processes;
  • Participate in the investigation of reported events (safety or otherwise) for Mine Planning;
  • Work with relevant Functions, Operations, Geology, Metallurgy, Geotechnical and Mining Engineer team members;
  • Ensure that teams are adequately briefed on technical matters to make appropriate decisions.

About You 

Ideally you will have a Tertiary education in Engineering discipline along with strong communication, organisation and stakeholder management skills.  A background in civil/structural/mechanical/mining/geotechnical will be highly regarded as well as prior experience in the Coal Mining industry.

You will be safety focused, team oriented and enjoy continuous improvement and driving for results & ideally have previous experience in a similar role working for an organisation in the mining sector. You will have:  

  • Open cut coal mining methods, including truck & shovel, dozer push and terrace mining;
  • Working knowledge of Geotechnical, Geology, processing and Survey process;
  • Well-developed analytical, interpretive and constructive/ lateral thinking skills.
  • It is not mandatory to have an engineering degree or know coal mining practices specifically, however experience within the mining industry is crucial;
  • Deep understanding of mining practices and associated planning processes, in particularly, how they are implemented and how to apply them to solve problems;
  • A working understanding of productivity software (Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Webex Teams or similar) and capability to learn design software (Vulcan, Deswik);
  • Passion for collaboration, tackling hard problems and not being afraid to ask questions; and
  • A real appetite for learning and growing, both as a mining professional and teammate.
