Deflector Operation consists of two high-grade, narrow vein Gold/Copper mines, located 160km east of Geraldton. The ore is contained in a series of structurally complex lodes of Deflector and South West deposits. An accelerated near mine exploration program coupled with first production from the South West deposit make for a busy and exciting future for the Deflector team.
THE ROLE:
We are looking for a motivated and solutions-focused Mining Superintendent to be a key part of Deflector’s ongoing success. The role will act as the main Alternate Underground Manager (with ticket coverage ~60% of the time) and will be responsible for all production, ventilation, project and short-term scheduling activities. In managing the day-to-day operation of the mines, this role will play a key part in achieving company production and safety targets, as well as ensuring team cohesion and common focus.
Responsibilities will include:
- Assume the role of Alternate Underground Manager
- Day-to-day management of the UG mining contractor
- Mentor, coach and develop a team of high-performing Mining Engineers
- Produce detailed EOM production reports and assist with EOM claims
- Provide visible safety leadership and implement safety improvement initiatives
- Strive to achieve elite level mining standards and industry best practice
- Drive production performance to ensure that the mines deliver on schedule
- Oversee the drill & blast, ventilation and short-term scheduling functions
- Optimise the production strategy and parameters
- Continuous improvement of procedures, standards, management plans and processes
- Management of all mining infrastructure and projects
- Drive the implementation of new technology, automation and innovation
- Manage mining capital and operating costs, with input into forecasts and budgets
- Management of the drilling consumables ground support and explosives contracts
ABOUT YOU:
You are a self-motivated, proactive and operationally-minded Mining Engineer, who can lead teams with a high level of accountability. You can manage multiple demands on your time with a calm and considered manner, and have excellent interpersonal skills coupled with a good eye for detail.
This will be supported by:
- Bachelor Mining Engineering BEng or equivalent
- WA First Class Manager’s Certificate of Competency
- Comprehensive experience in UG mining, including narrow vein gold operations
- Demonstrated experience in a supervisory role, with experience training and mentoring technical professionals
- Exposure to the various aspects of an UG mine, including production/drill & blast, ventilation, backfill, scheduling, planning and operations
- Exposure to UG projects and capital infrastructure (preferred)
- Experience acting as either an Alternate or Deputy Underground Manager, or Underground Supervisor (preferred)
- Previous contractor management experience (preferred)
- Proficient in use and application of Deswik, VentSim and MS Office suite
- Functional knowledge of WA Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022
