Job Tasks and Responsibilities

The Mining Superintendent - Drill & Blast / Mine Services is responsible for the management and continuous improvement Premier Coal mining equipment, personnel and contracted resources to ensure all drill & blast and mining operations are conducted in a safe and efficient manner and meeting KPI’s as set out in the Mining Budget

  • Direct drill & blast through consistent interaction with Mining and Dispatch Supervisor’s to ensure mining and other key performance targets are met and exceeded where possible on a daily basis
  • Assist in preparation of yearly budget and forecast for the Drill & Blast / Mine Services area in consultation with the Mining Superintendent - Operations and Mining Manager, ensuring accuracy and consideration of any possible shifts in the operating environment
  • Work in conjunction with the Mining Superintendent - Operations and Mining Manager to prepare the manning budget and monitor employee numbers throughout the year to ensure they are maintained
  • Contribute to the mine planning and scheduling process and communicate same to the Mining and Dispatch Supervisor’s to promote foresight and further education of personnel.

Skills and Experience

  • Quarry Manager qualification (highly desirable).
  • Degree or Diploma in an associated discipline (highly desirable).
  • Senior First Aid Certificate.
  • Demonstrated skills in risk awareness, hazard identification and a strong commitment to safety performance.
  • Working knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and associated regulations and how they pertain to individual and supervisor obligations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of associated plant & machinery within the mining environment and how to apply “best” fit.
  • Previous experience in providing leadership to effect project and operational success in an Open Cut Mining environment.
  • Experienced at leading and mentoring Mining and Dispatch Supervisors for the purpose of maximising mine productivity.
  • Highly developed operating skills on a wide range of earthmoving equipment.
