About the role 

This is a permanent full-time role being offered on a 7:7 roster, FIFO from Darwin or Cairns.

You will provide supervision and leadership of the mining crews to safely execute the daily and weekly plan. People are at the centre of how we operate at GEMCO, and we are looking for a Supervisor who can lead in line with our four values: Care, Trust, Togetherness, and Excellence.

Some of your main responsibilities will include: 

  • Safely execute work in line with 24hr and weekly plans
  • Provide visible leadership, completing targeted workplace interactions and control management activities to engage and verify operating practices in line with approved procedures
  • Contribute to achieving GEMCO health, safety and environment outcomes through effective leadership, role modelling appropriate workplace behaviours, setting, and maintaining the standard for the crew
  • With support from Mining Superintendents and Human Resources, responsible for co-ordinating end-end people management processes including leave management, performance monitoring and disciplinary process
  • Liaise with maintenance department on breakdown issues and equipment requirements
  • Identify and maintain training requirements within crew as well as positively contribute to the development of team members 

About you

You will have solid experience in the mining industry with demonstrated operational understanding of open cut mining methods and a working knowledge of relevant legislation. You will bring energy and technical know-how to solve problems and contribute to the success of the operation.

To be considered for the role, you will have:

  • S1, 2, 3 highly desirable
  • C class manual driver’s licence
  • Demonstrated ability to select, develop, coach and mentor employees resulting in improved engagement, diversity and organisational capability
  • Be a positive role model and influence team members by being motivated, engaged and supportive leader
  • Demonstrated experience supervising a large workforce to positive effect in an open cut mining environment
  • A sound understanding of mining safety, health and environment and risk management frameworks
  • An improvement mindset, actively pursuing opportunities to improve safety, productivity and culture
  • Hold team members to account for quality of workmanship and safety expectations
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
