Location


Located on the tropical Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, GEMCO is a South32 Company, the operation is accountable for over 20% of the world’s manganese ore production. Groote Eylandt is home to the Anindilyakwa people, who are the traditional owners of the land and have been working alongside GEMCO since 1963.

The Opportunity


This role is a 4:3 Roster Monday - Thursday, Residential or FIFO available from Cairns or Darwin.  


Reporting to the Manager Maintenance, you will lead the Mobile Maintenance team in the maintenance of HME fleet, overseeing compliance and achieving optimal maintenance and operational outcomes.

Accountabilities:


Primary responsibilities are but not limited to:

  • Safely manage a team of 140 people with 100 pieces of HME. 
  • Ensure optimal management of the department through the effective and efficient application of policies and procedures, business systems, human and financial resources.
  • Actively coach and pursue opportunities to ensure front line leaders develop an inclusive operating culture where employees are empowered to speak up and effectively contribute every day.
  • Provides technical direction to execution through the creation of maintenance process standards.
  • Supports operations in delivering maintenance plans by conducting “Plan-Do-Check-Act” analyses and by troubleshooting technical problems. 
  • Contributes to the preparation of the inputs to form the Maintenance budget. 
  • Oversees and provides guidance in the execution of the weekly work schedule or shutdown schedules and minimise any unscheduled work requirements. 
  • Endorses, leads the implementation, and monitors effectiveness of Maintenance   
  • Execution improvement initiatives with support from Maintenance Analysis & Improvement (A&I). 
  • Builds cross-functional relationships with the Operational sub-functions to support the delivery of production. 
  • Guides Supervisors in the weekly planning and scheduling meetings to ensure alignment and commitment of resources to the work schedule. 
  • Contributes to the development of the Maintenance strategy and budget (foreseeable & unforeseeable corrective) by reviewing the existing Work Plans Task Lists and Corrective Task Lists, in collaboration with Maintenance A&I. 
     

Experience required


Key to your success will be your high-level leadership capabilities with a track record of driving and executing strategic business goals in a fast-paced Mining or Heavy Industry environment.  

  • Relevant Superintendent experience with the ability to make critical business decisions. 
  • Business Improvement aptitude 
  • Well-developed written communication skills for Business Case Development 
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach, lead and facilitate cooperation with production employees. Possess intermediate computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, SAP and similar systems and databases.
